With a thoughtful look, "How about steak and sweet potatoes?" He suggested. "As for dessert, I'm partial to ice cream or cakes. I do like sweets" He doesn't think it was too hard of a request for a human equivalent of a banquet.
"I'm sure you can think up of something. After all, we're going to eat together tomorrow so it's a meal between the both of us."
That... It would be hard but doable. "I may have to arrive here early then tomorrow if I want to get the steaks cooked right. I know where I can get some fresh sweet potatoes as well."
He must really eat a lot. It was so much to do. But if it was the price! Then so be it!
Except of course, she couldn't help but to blush a little. "Ah, so I guess then I should try and make it extra special, especially if it will be our first meal together."
There's a feeling of excitement and anticipation. "Then tomorrow afternoon, I'll be here. I have never eaten a meal with a human before. It's usually the humans give me a meal as an offering like you did today."
It seems to be the price because he didn't ask for anything else. "Now dessert should be special too. I would like something that you humans call the delicacy chocolate."
And okay, it was time to be a little nervous at just how excited he was getting. "I am not the best cook in the village but I will still do my best." There, a nice warning.
She couldn't help but to giggle. "If you want something that fancy for dessert, I may have to purchase it so you won't be disappointed." Another giggle before shaking her head.
"I should leave now before you go and add more." It was a small tease and she slowly backs away, not quite wanting to leave his company quite yet.
He is a real dragon after all, but she must contain herself and be patient. Even he felt hesitant inwardly. He doesn't trust humans at all, and he's well as to the reason why they need his type of magic. Being a dragon, he doesn't trust too easily to go partnered with a human.
"No, there isn't anymore I could think off. I wouldn't mind cheese, fruits, and vegetables either. I think I just don't like bugs." He wanted to add. "Though some of my kind can eat those."
She will be patient and will try not to be in his way after they make the pact. Or at least, try to be patient.
She holds up her hands as he keeps adding more. "No more... I dont think I can carry all that. But, I will do what I can." Then the thought of eating bugs came up and she scrunches her face a little.
"I'm glad that you don't eat bugs." Really, REALLY glad. "I guess then I will see you tomorrow. I hope that you will like it and oh! Think about what you would like for me to do for you after we make the pact."
"Be a little creative. I'm looking forward to see what you can think up with. Humans can be artistic with their food. Sometimes, I eat raw just like that." He said.
"I'll think of something." It's rare he does anything as spontaneous as this one, making a decision to bond with a human. He kept putting it off and couldn't see what's the big deal when the other dragons he knows were talking about.
With a nod as he sees her off. "See you tomorrow." He murmured.
He'll wait in the same spot the next day as promised when she comes looking for him and came prepared.
A small nod of her head before she lets out a slow sigh. "I can at least promise you that it won't be raw."
"Let me know." She said before waving and heading back towards the village and to the marketplace first! Need to get all the supplies to properly prep the dinner for the next day!
The next day came and though it took her sometime, she finally reached the part, pulling a wooden wagon behind her to help transport the food and cooking supplies.
"Are.... Are there any stones that... I can use to.... Help build a fire?..." She pants out as she finally makes it to the spot. "Just.... Need to cook... The steaks."
Even though she is panting, she beams up at him, looking proud of herself.
Earlier that morning, he studied the basics of a magical pact between dragon and human. While he studied it before, he didn't think it would be useful. Until now. Once he memorized the formulas, the chants and incantations, he have confidence it will be pretty straightforward and simple as the girl doesn't seem to be too demanding and it could be beneficial.
When he sees the wagon, he was impressed. "You brought a wagon." He said, highly amused. "I expect a picnic basket."
"I have stones. I thought you would have prepared the steaks back in your village." But no matter, he can improvised definitely and while he's hungry, it might be fun to learn to cook alongside with her.
He set up a circle of stones and a grill over the stones, and then a collection of twigs and logs, and finally charcoal to keep it hot. The dragon has everything from his lair.
"The grill is ready when you are." He said. Just a matter of unloading the wagon cart, because he's curious what she brought.
She blushed when she realized that he wasn't expecting the sight of the wagon. "It's... Because there are some heavier items."
So much blushing now as he sets up the circle of stones. "It's because steaks usually taste best when it's freshly cooked. And it's easier to carry them raw over cooked."
A small smile as he starts the fire while she takes out a large quilt to use as their 'blanket' and in the wagon there was a large stone heavy pot filled with wrapped sweet potatoes which are still warm. A small pastery that looks like it could be a cake (it's cake) but could be something else. Fresh made butter, two fresh loaves of bread and a small wheel of cheese. For drink, there was some rosewater as well as mulled wine.
"Great, let me put the steaks on." She beams as she puts the steaks on the grill, laying a couple of herbs on top of them. "I hope that this matches with that you wanted."
She smiles as he helps unload the wagon. "We should have plenty of side dishes to snack on while we wait for the steaks to cook."
"If I knew, I would have come over and help." But colored him impressed that she managed on her own anyway.
So just leave the set-up of the grill to0 him. "That's right. And they maintain the flavor when the fire is hot. I'm sure it will."
With the steaks laid out, eventually, he kindled the flame. He took a breath and a steady stream of fire release from his mouth to set the logs and charcoal ablaze. The smell of grilled meat and smoke filled the air.
"Let's see what you have. Let me help you laid it out."
She goes to shake her head softly, smiling up at him. "But, this was a task you wanted me to do for our pact. It is the least I can do."
A small puff of her chest at his words. "That is correct! It will give it an extra layer of flavor."
A small amount of pride was going through her. Though she steps back at the sight of him breathing fire to kindle the flame. ".... No matter how many times I see it, seeing a dragon's flame is always impressive."
His words gave her focus as the steaks cook. "If you can take care of all the stone pots that would be a great help. I hope you will enjoy the spread of food."
He smiles, proud of his power when she witness him breathing flames. There was a steam from his nostrils, which he waves away.
"True, but I enjoy cooking too." With a nod, he helps with whatever she suggested. "I should show you my library later on, but after we make the pact."
Eventually, the smell of steaks and potatoes filled the air. "This smells good but let's make it well-down."
It was certainly awe-inspiring to her to see his flames and the sight of the steam, a small reminder of what just happened.
"Oh? What do you enjoy cooking?" The pact... She can't believe that was finally making a pact with a dragon. "I can't wait to see it."
This... This was a lot of fun and she couldn't help but to smile up at him when the smell was at it's heaviest. "Well done? Okay, we can do that." She will leave the steaks alone for a little while longer as she puts the finishing touches to the spread with his help.
"We are going to be feasting today." And all the work she put into it since the night before better be worth it. She hopes... Really hopes it will be.
"I enjoy cooking plenty of meals. I usually eat a lot of meat, because that's easily available in the forest. I think a rare food for me is cheese, rice, bread, and cake since humans were needed to make those." He said.
It certainly is fun. The fact he is a dragon may felt unreal to her. He flipped the steak over to grilled the undone side as the other side is now near well-done.
Eventually, the steak is close to well-done and it's matter of adding a few seasonings and sauces.
She goes to smile up at him. "Then with our pact I can get you those things whenever you desire them. Or at least try my best to get them for you.
This had to be the most fun she had and, it was a pity that he wasn't a human man, then she could easily flirt and maybe pursue him a little. Once the steaks were flipped, she goes to start seasoning the other side, smiling up at him.
When he mentioned the potatoes, she smiles and nods her head. "Yes, they look like they are. But we should be careful when handling them."
But wrapping a cloth around her hand, she takes out a potato and peels it before showing it to him. "Have a bite."
"You seem to know a lot." He said, with a nod, already impressed. The steaks are being grilled and there's a smokey herb scent in the air along with the potatoes.
It will take some time for the food to be thoroughly cooked and well-done. "I think it's ready." It's a matter of setting up the plates, spoons, and forks if she brought any for the picnic.
"Oh?" he eyes the potato. "Don't mind if you do." He smiles and takes a bite. "It's really good." And takes another big bite. "I think it's missing something. I don't know what it's called. I never have it often. I think it's butter and salt?"
"I just know small common things. And from some trail and error." A small blush appearing on her cheeks.
At the announcement of the food being done, she nods and gets to work to set up the plates, spoons, knives and forks. "We are ready to eat!" It was so exciting! Sharing a meal with someone else and also her future dragon! This was slowly turning into one of the best days of her life.
She giggles at the small bout of playfulness and nods her head. "There is some butter and salt to do with as you please." And she goes to fetch such items though it wasn't a lot of each one.
For the most part, he was calm. He ate his food in delight. He seems to be enjoying himself and the meal, so the food must be right.
Time passes and flows, and the food is all good. Every plate is almost empty and clean. A dragon's appetite can be impressive.
"Leanne, every dish is remarkably delicious. I don't know how you did it, but it's wonderful." He praised. The dragon seems very tamed and in a good mood.
"Now about your pact. We have much to discuss." From his coat pocket, he pulls out and rolls a parchment of paper and a pen.
Leanne already enjoys her own cooking but she felt a sense of pride at just how much of her food he was eating and that pride only grew as more and more plates were cleaned.
And hnnnng, she is gonna either worker harder to make sure she has more food or somehow make more money to keep him fed.
"Thank you, it makes my heart glad to hear you enjoy my cooking. It is just simple cooking." But yet despite her words, she can't help but to puff up her chest.
When he mentions the pact, she nods as she tried to think of things that she could want from him. She found that her needs and wants were few.
"I do desire your protection for when bandits attack the village." Though she has survived on her own this far, she knows that she was only a female and could easily be overpowered. "And also some companionship from time to time as it gets lonely in my hut. I will cook for you whenever you come over."
She goes to lift a finger. "You don't have to worry about staying with me all the time nor worry about parting with your wealth. It would feel wrong to ask for it when I did nothing to earn it. It would also feel wrong to ask for your help with simple tasks."
Okay, that was all she could think of before letting out a long breath lowering her finger.
"Sound reasonable." With the pen on the parchment, he has written down her demands and took note, and write extra words with clauses.
"Pretty much we're on the same page." His handwriting is clear with elegant script. After he has written everything she said.
Once he finished, he gives her the parchment. "Here, read everything and if everything sound good to you, then we have an agreement. I'll make a ritual to make sure our contract is binding in magic as well."
A small smile as he comments on what she wanted. "It... Isn't much and I pray it will still allow you your freedom that you are used to." This will be like a partnership in her mind, seeing him a few times with her should get everyone off of her back with their teasing about not having a dragon.
"I am glad that it seems like it." She takes the parchment and blushes at how elegant his handwriting is. She carefully reads it, mostly curious about all the extra he put in it before smiling and handing it back to him.
"Can't think of anything better." She blinks as she realizes that she hasn't given him her name. "Leanne... my name is Leanne. I would prefer to be called that over any other titles."
Then something belatedly goes through her brain.
"Magic ritual?..." Guess who didn't think of that aspect of the pact?
"I'm not worried about freedom. We both have mutual interests and benefits, and I'll make sure you get your end of the deal. A pact is an agreement." He said, and by the looks of it, it seems she understood he is not meant to be a pet or a slave, and she doesn't seek to enslaven him. "As a dragon, we're equals, though my magic and powers is far surpassed than any creature in the forest."
But the pact and the binding does seem complicated yet straightforward. "Leanne is it? I'm Lucifer, named after a God of the Morningstar, which is another name for Venus. Then if you agreed, please sign here, and I'll sign my name also." On the parchment and he provided a pen for her and hand it over.
At her question, "I'll show you once you sign." Once she did, it was very simple. He simply ran his right hand over the paper and the written words he and she worte glow like a fire embers through the scripted ink.
"Now it's a magic parchment and I'm bind to you, and I can lend you my powers." He explains.
She could never think to enslave him or treat him as such. "I am glad. And ah... You are a dragon, how could I even imagine being equal to one as great as you."
A soft nod of her was her response to his question. "Lucifer? It is my pleasure to meet you." A soft giggle. "I heard that Venus was associated with love."
Leanne accepted the pen and parchment and goes to sign her name. Only to watch in awe as he 'signs' his name. Her awe only grew at his words and she slowly nods her head.
"I won't abuse your powers, I promise. I will do my best not to make you regret it."
His expression softens, "What a strange thing to say." He's highly doubtful she could outpower him. In his long life, he outpowered and outmaneuver humans time and time again single-handedly.
With their signatures written, he rolls the paper neatly with a twine rope and then puts it away in his coat pocket. He'll sealed it with a wax later in his office since currently he's eating supper with his human.
"Now that we have a pact, we're bonded." He smiles softly. "Now what's for dessert?"
