She just has to go look in the area near the forest. She doesn't have to wait for long. There was a rustle of leaves being disturbed by someone making a movement and by the sound of his heavy steps, none too lightly.
He's a very tall dragon. Short silver hair and fair of skin with curved horns on the side of his head, tall in height, long horned serpentine tail, and a pair of wings folded on his back. He wears wooled winter garments, a thick coat and a scarf, and leather boots to thread over snow as it's winter and cold of the season.
From a glance, he seems to wander around and scouting the area. He stopped and scanned his surroundings to see if there's another predator enemy from the woods, hopefully not another enemy dragon, wolf, or bear he has to fight in a skirmish for territory and food.
He checks for any traps first as he's worried it could be a false alarm and bait. He saw it's safe to take, so he took the sandwich and the thermos. Initially he wants to bring it back home to feed it to his family, one of his younger brothers, but he hasn't eaten much food for days for himself. In his hunger fatigue, he caved in and ate the sandwich greedily and drank the thermos down to relieve the hunger pangs.
The forest, it was one of her favorite forging places during harvest seasons. But now, it was showing her another gift, an dragon! Leanne held her breath a little as he heads towards her bait and then takes it! YES! She lets out a silent cheer before waiting for him to finish the sandwich.
Though daaaaang, he was quite the looker! It was almost unfair that he was a dragon and not a human.
But then, he seems to have finished the bait sandwich, Leanne quickly moves to find the next extra sandwich and lightly tosses it into the clearing in order to lure him closer and maybe catch her scent so he won't be so scared or angry at her when he finally notices her.
Please let him be a nice one as it slowly dawns on her that this could have been a big mistake judging by how big he is. Though he does seem to be the scared/nervous type.
Well, he didn't find himself as handsome or anything. He was dazed from hunger and searching around the territory hunting and foraging for food. He did drink the hot chocolate from the thermos slowly, almost guzzling it down and nearly burn himself silly for it. "Ow...hot, hot." But then drink the rest once it cools down.
So, it took a while for him to take notice of another sandwich from the rustling of the leaves and he took that too. He sniffed at it and checked and tucked it with a cloth handkerchief and put it his knapsack to take home to his brothers for later.
Well eventually he connects two and two together since bread is a human made food that isn't commonly made by dragon kind since they don't have land to farm wheat.
He peers over the trees, and he saw her. Consider him nervous since he tends to avoid humans out of fear, they will get violent and capture him to be thrown in a shelter or be a pet.
He approaches, stepping closer on light footsteps. "H-Hello? Who's there? You give this to me?"
She winces when she hears him hurting himself briefly with the hot chocolate. But he was handsome! Very very handsome to her that Leanne couldn't help but to blush whenever she sees his face.
Her breath catches in her throat as she watches him slowly adding two and two together and start searching for her. Only to slowly release it when he starts to slowly approach her.
"Ah h-h-hi. Yes, I did give them to you. I was hoping to ask you for help with something.... That is... If it isn't too much of a bother..."
Regret and now worry that she might have made a dumb decision goes across her face. "I-I-I can pay in sandwiches or small meals..."
A part of him is wary, worrying this is a trap. Perhaps a little nervous and afraid. He scarcely contact humans out of fear of being hunted or captured to be kept as a "mythical pet" and to protect his clan to keep them hidden. He never wish humans harm not like his more violently inclined, more aggressive dragonkin who resist humans.
Most of the clothes and human goods are traded and barter if their glam spells can hold long enough to hide the horns and wings to make them appear human. At times stolen from humans at night to avoid being seen and out of necessity for survival.
"H-hello. I don't know if I am the one you should be asking." Upon hearing her offer, he is interested. "Did you come alone? What do you want?"
That worry was very reasonable when considering the people of her village. Though they would be more the type to capture a dragon to display power and status.
Leanne smiles after letting out a long sigh. "You seem gentle and kind enough." Okay, nerves should be gone now. She lifts her hands to show that she doesn't have anything hidden for him to worry about.
"I am alone, and... I would need help with pulling either a wagon or a cart as I am not strong enough to do such a thing. As well as making sure that no one tries to rob me." She admits with an embarrassed chuckle. "But basically handing out some food and something warm to drink during this season. If there are any leftovers, you could take them and if not, I will cook you something."
"Only within reason." He answered. There's still tension. She is a human after all, and his father always warned him that they're not to be trusted, having their own dragonkind being enslaved against their will. Some were rescued and some to never be heard from again.
Still worried that this is a trap. He simply nodded. "Are you sure that's all you need? You could always hire someone to do the pulling for you. I am not a horse, you know?" However, horses are expensive to buy and care for to keep as pets and working animals.
The promise of human food however is tempting. "You require more of me than simple charity. What is it? Is it treasure or magickal artifacts or knowledge?"
It was actually a bluffing for he neither have all of those. It was him testing her for integrity and honesty.
The tension, she can feel it ans idly goes to hug herself to relieve it a little. It still baffles her how humans have treated his kind so horribly.
"Yes, that is all I need. You won't have to stay with me during the night." She blinks and couldn't help but to laugh at imagining him as a horse. "I would never dream of seeing you as a horse." She then smiles warmly at him.
At his test, she goes to shake her head. "No, just a simple charity is all. I have no such need for things such as power or money. I work my lands for whatever coin I earn. And what will I do with knowledge? Such a thing can become dangerous."
She then pulls out another thermos. "Want some more hot cocoa?"
"It can't be simple charity. Humans aren't motivated by generosity." He said, shaking his head. "There must be something you want since I don't have any of those."
His eyes sparkled at the sight. "Hot cocoa you say?" He might as well try it and take a leap of faith to trust her. "You promise to give me that?"
He reaches out to take the thermos and with a sip, sure enough, he slowly drank it down for the warmth. "It's good and very rich and sweet."
"Well, you are stronger than me and probably have more endurance as well. I don't know if I can pull my wagon as well as you could." She answers as honestly as she possibly can.
When his eyes sparkle, she couldn't help but to blush and let out a small giggle. "Yes, I promise to give you that. I will even make extra for you to drink when you leave so you can enjoy it later on."
Leanne smiles as gently and proudly as she can. "Is there anything I can do to improve it you think?"
"Yes, that's true. I'm not sure about being strong enough." He won't admit that he tends to flee from the mere sight of a bear. He wins most battles by not fighting. "But if you want me to pull your wagon, I might as well give it a try."
He has a hard time believing her and trusting her. Perhaps she needs a strategy to win him over such giving him far better, high quality treats.
"I think it's good. If you're giving me more just to pull your wagon, then perhaps...yes. I can do that." She's winning him over at least.
She smiles up at him, holding a cookie out towards him to encourage him to enjoy a treat. "Well, if you can't do it then it will be okay. It is mostly filled with sandwiches, treats and hot cocoa." Though when he relented, she beamed up at him. "Thank you! That is all I am asking."
It was obvious that he didn't quite trust her yet. It was just baby steps in winning him over.
"Yes, I can give you more for pulling my wagon. I can do the majority of the work and you just need to pull the wagon. Though I might put some bells on you to be cute."
His eyes brighten up and he takes the cookie to eat it, nibble on it, and finds it just as delicious as the previous treats. "I could. Do you need me to pull the wagon now?" Ah manual labor, but if that means more treats, that means more food for him and some food he could save to take back to his family.
He shook his head, "I'm not one wearing for bells." He said shyly.
He was so cute nibbling on the cookie! Leanne goes to shake her head at his question. "Not now but tomorrow. I will need to prepare the food for us to hand out but I promise to make lots so there will hopefully be enough leftovers for you to take home."
She goes to nod her head. "It's okay, though you probably would have looked adorable wearing them." She goes to stretch. "I am Leanne. It is a pleasure to meet and work with you starting tomorrow."
A small pause before realizing that he might not know what she was going to do.
"Ah, we will be handing out food to those who may need a good meal during these winter nights. A warm drink and meal."
Whether she could be trusted remains to be seen. For now, it seems she just looking for manual labor with fair pay. He remembers his father's words to be careful of humans and exercise precaution.
He wants to make sure it's a fair trade for manual labor. He wants to accept her praise, wanted to believe her, and trust this human, if only he wouldn't worry his father.
"Okay tomorrow then. But it must be fair compensation. So, food I want and need." He said, to feed himself and his family. Hopefully this will help him and his big family.
Leanne continues to smile up at him, unaware of how what was going through his thoughts.
She moves closer to him, "Hey, if you want... You can follow me home and you can take a basket of food home with you."
She claps her hands and tried not to cheer when he agreed. "I will do my best to give you fair compensation. If I ask for anything than I mentioned to you already, I will pay you extra." Need? What does he need? "Need? What else do you want beside food?"
Sweet blue eyes widen in surprised and confusion. More of confusion. "You want me to follow you home?"
He looks around. "No one invites a dragon to a human home. Do you think it will be all right?" But the sound of food makes his stomach rumble. He just ate and he's hungry already yet again.
"Chickens?" He said as his answer. "Lots of meats." Already licking his lips. "In particular, you humans have what you called a barbeque, with the meats all smoked." He said.
He can't hide his excitement, "If it's all right, I can follow you." She looks trustworthy and it doesn't seem to be trick.
Those blue eyes, they were so sweet and gentle. "Yes, you look like you are hungry and it would be where we will meet to start work."
She goes to smile even more. "Yes, it will be and if anyone has a problem with it, then they will have to answer to me." An attempt at assuring him. Emerald eyes blink at the sound of his stomach growling.
"I do have a few chickens... They are currently brooding some eggs so if you are patient, I can offer you a couple of them after they are done brooding." I offered to him before blinking before giggling. "I can barbeque meats for you. Any particular type of meat you wish to be smoked?"
Leanne smiles and turns to start walking back to the village. "It is quite alright, but if it is too much, you can stop following me home." She beams and keeps on walking. "Do you have a mate and family?"
