Farming PSL
It was a day. The borrows were getting too full and there were far too many mouths to feed at this point. While they were not lacking in food, it was still better to start sending out the younger rabbits out into the world so that there would be less mouths to feed. Leanne was feeling a little rushed to pack her things up and leave the borrow. Thankfully, she had already secured a job and a small hut to live in.
The whole hunt was tiring but so worth it! There was freedom and new and exciting adventures were waiting for her!
She hopped off the bus on her first day on a farm. She heard that the farmer was a kitsune and that he needed help around the farm. The fact that he was a fox did make her a little nervous but she had already received instructions to start tending to the crops to start her day.
A small sigh and sniffing the air, she doesn't really bother checking in quite yet with the farmer as she wasn't sure what her reaction would be but... She knew farming and was confident that she can find the right crops!

Tally-ho!

He was expecting her to arrive. He heard on the phone and check his e-mails of when she is coming. When he noticed her, he looks up and waves as she arrives.
"Good morning, you arrive early." He comes closer to open the fence to let her in and welcome her to enter his land.
no subject
"Good morning.... I just didn't want to be late and also... Wanted to see what the land is like. Just so I can get started right away with the work."
no subject
"You come to the right place. You're here for the job, right? Let me give you a tour and tell you about the job, and then we can have lunch and tea."
The gate is opened, "Come on over and walk with me. I'll show you around." Through the aisles and rows of the crops. "This is my garden."
no subject
"Ye-Ye-Yes I am. I really hope that you will take a liking ta me." She nearly stutters out, speaking softly. Not realizing how her words could be taken.
She goes to shyly walk through the open gate. "Th-Th-Thank you..." Her long ears laying flat against her head. "From what I have seen it looks wonderful."
no subject
He's being friendly and he smiles, "You're going to be fine. If you spot bugs and you're afraid, you just let me know and I'll pick it. Just tell me what you're good at and what you're not good at, and then we can figure out something."
no subject
Her eyes blink before she couldn't help but to let out a puff of breath. "Thank you. I am pretty confident as I helped tended to crops back at the borrows. I have yet met a bug that scares me but I will let you know as soon as I find one."
She goes to ponder for a moment before blushing a little. "Well, even if I am not scared of bugs... I still don't like touching them." She goes to move her ears to hide her face behind them. "But I can work on that. I really can."
no subject
"This is the hose to water the crops. It will go as far as the whole field. Some rows have sprinklers to take care of it." He nods in approval of her experience, and in an hour after he shows her around for a tour and then stops to check in if she's all right.
"If you have to pick, wear gloves and a faceshield to protect yourself. I think that's it." He grins friendly. "You can start right away tomorrow morning and I'll show you and teach you. In the meanwhile, would you like refreshments? Lemonade or orange juice perhaps? Iced tea?" He offered.
no subject
"Are the ones that have sprinklers connected to this same faucet or their own?" She inquires. When he gives her another tour, she was making mental notes over where everything is, her long floppy perking and twiching. When he checks, she goes to smile brightly up at him and nods her head firmly. She was very determined to make the best first impression possible.
"Thank you for showing me around, boss! I will do my best not to disappoint you!" She blinks as he offers refreshments and goes to blush a little. "Some lemonade would be nice but ah, I do not wish to impose."
no subject
"Oh, the sprinklers. It's not that hard once you learn how to turn it on. They're connected to the pipelines underground if that's what you're asking. Just don't get squeamish over the bugs. I had a few workers before, once they see the big bugs especially during the rainy season, they ran home." He sighs. "As much as I hate bugs, I just can't bring myself to kill them hahaha..."
For an impressive-looking fox with nine tails, he just openly admits that he's squeamish of bugs himself.
"Oh, don't be so informal. I'm your boss, but you can call me Mu. That's my name in two letters." He grins. "All right, I'll make that lemonade."
Which he did, pouring two tall glasses of iced lemonade in order, and then hands her a glass. "Here. You can have more if you like." Then drinks it down himself. "So, the job, it's yours. Just come in the morning or afternoon. Its hard work, so it's best to start when the sun rises."
no subject
"You may have to show me a couple of times how to turn them on." She admits a little embarrassed by that. "But, once I learn something, I never forget it!"
But then he admits that he is squeamish of bugs and... Okay, that is a little cute and she couldn't help but to giggle a little. "I guess then I will have to step it up a bit more when it comes to bugs so you won't have to fear them." She giggles out. Cute, who knew that such an impressive-looking nine tailed fox would have such a cute trait.
"Ah, are you sure? I don't want to over step any boundaries. Mu? I am Leanne... AH! But you probably already knew that or.. I probably already told you that." Oh gods, she probably just embarrassed herself completely in front of him.
Leanne felt herself die a little from embarrassment as by her, her face was flushed with a pinkish red hue as she focuses on grooming her ears. She just hoped that she didn't make a bad impression of rabbits as a whole. She will have to work twice as hard to make up for it!
She blinks and her nose twitches as he hands her the glass, snapping out of her thoughts before smiling. "Thank you." She goes to take a sip but then he announces that the job was hers and everything in her perked up enough to nearly jump for joy. Before she could stop herself, she moves to give him a kiss on the cheek.
"Thank ya! I will be sure to not disappoint you! I will be here bright and early to start working."
no subject
"Just do the best that you can. Any help is appreciated." That means much considering he is used to working on his own over a large acre of garden.
no subject
Looking back at him, she wiggled her nose before smiling brightly at him. "You got it. Ah, if you can think of any other tasks on any day to give to me, even if I am working let me know so I can fulfill it. I am grateful for this opportunity, Mu." A small stretch. "Mind if I go over the fields and gardens again, just so I can better memorize them and draw up a plan to best help you."
no subject
A thoughtful pause as she takes notes as he kept his tails tucked together. "And one more thing. Sometimes in the evening, the forest spirits and fairies would come to hang out and pick a few fruits and vegetables to take back home to the forest." By the forest, it's a dense forest close behind his farmhouse. "So, it's quite respectful to leave an offering. They enjoy alcoholic spirits and cakes. When they come later tonight, I'll show you."
By the time the sun sets and goes down and the sky becomes dark bringing evening, Leanne will see what he meant. The spirits appear as orbs at first, but as soon they materialized and upon closer look, they are small beings with pale skin and dark curious eyes as they gathered in groups to climb over the fence and around the vines to collect the ripe fruits and vegetables to snack on and harvest.
"This type of spirit is called kodama." He said as he gestures her to follow him to his house and opens the doors to allow the spirits to follow him to the kitchen. "They come just in time for dinner. They're silent but very gentle and only likes to fruits and vegetables as well as sweets."
Smiling at her, "Which I think you're hungry by now if you want something to eat before you go home."
no subject
And off she goes to do just that! Making detailed notes as well as sketching sections of the farm. She finishes her sketch of the toolshed as he speaks up and looks towards him. "Forest Spirits? Fairies?" She... She never really thought about the possibility of seeing such things, despite her boss having multiple tails himself. "Is there a spot in particular where I should leave the offerings? I don't want to be disrespectful to them, especially if I do see one..."
Long ears perk up when the sun sets and it soon became evening. A long stretch that started from her core until it hit the tip of her ears and toes, looking pleased with herself. Only to jump rather high at the sight of the orbs, quickly moving away before pausing and watching in awe at the kodamas.
"Ah." It was all she could say before following him into his house, blushing now as she realized just how silly she might have looked in front of him and the spirits. "So, they like sweets? Do they like anything in particular or are they not picky?"
The blush only deepens when he smiles at her. "Ah, I don't wish to intrude upon you so soon. I mean you already treated me so much and you hired a country gal like me." She goes to think for a moment. "But... I can accept as long as I help cook the meal. Can't let you do all the work."
no subject
"For the Kodama, you can leave cakes and milk on the kitchen table using bowls and plates. They're taking it immediately to take back to their clan in the forests. But don't handle the wine and alcohol yet. They can be drunk easily."
"But yes, they like sweets. Sweet potatoes and candied yams, honey and nectar they love best, but they'll take candy." He shows her how to do it, by assembling the offerings on the table. "Like this. Because you're a rabbit, they like you already. As long it's thoughtful, I don't think they're picky, but each one is unique. This group tends to follow me around."
They're very cute and small, the kodamas. Some even have what looks like leaves on their heads, some have flowers, and some have buds. They climb over the kitchen tables and chairs with ease, already eating from the plate and sitting around on the counter, on the table, and by the sink.
"I don't expect you to cook, but you can if you want to. I don't mind." He said as he starts cooking the meal for the evening. "Now that you see them, I suggest you don't wander out into the forest as they're many magical beings that live out there. Being a kitsune, I guard this territory and keep it safe. Which I'll show you the territory tomorrow."
no subject
When he begins teaching her what the Kodama like, she pulls out a smaller notepad to write it down. "So cake and milk so they can bring it home but no wine and alcohol. Got it."
And oh! More things they like and she was mad scribbling her notes to be as through as possible, as well as how the offerings should be assembled. It seems like this job was the best for her as there was no way it could ever get boring! She blinks as he mentions a fact that she never would have guessed. "They like rabbits?"
Her question was on hold as she looks at just how adorable they looked and a small 'awwww' leaves her. She really wants to touch and pet one. At his words, she goes to stash away her notepad and pen and goes at once to help. "I don't mind helping. You hired me to help so I will." A small giggle and she tilts her head. "... Is it not safe for me to go in there?"
That warning was... Strange but a little frightening. "I will try to be here earlier then."
no subject
He smiles softly, "Especially magical rabbits such as yourself." At her question, "Well, yes. There are dark creatures that lurk and live in the deeper part of the woods. It's true that faeries tend to lure prey with their magic and food, and they are never seen again. I put a gate and fence around with a sign to keep out, and it was well hidden. As a guardian, I kept patrol and on the watch to keep trespassers out."
The kitsune has the dinner assembled, with his rabbit's plate full of cooked vegan dishes from stew and friend and cut up fruits for dessert. Only on his side, that he has fish to eat for meat. "Help yourself to dinner."
no subject
Though at the mentioning of her being magical, she blushes a blush that travels to the tip of her ears. "I-I-I just work hard, not quite sure about being magical." So much blushing right now. Though the blushing slowly vanishes as he talks about the forest and slowly nods her head. "Got-Got it. I will do my best to stay out of it."
Without thinking, she gently pets one of the kodamas as a quick means of comfort before aiding in the cooking. Once dinner was done, she couldn't help but to smile quite a bit. "Wow! This is a feast, you cooked way more than you need to for little old me!" But she was grateful. "I will have to work extra hard so that you won't regret choosing me to be your helper."
no subject
"Your core is small, but I do have some medicinal elixir to make your magic stronger for a short period of time. I think I have medicine to increase your physical strength and help you run faster." With the intention of helping her have more energy and be efficient on the farm. "But hopefully you wouldn't run into any predator from the dark side of the forest. I lived here for a long time and none went over the fence and enter through the gate to come on my property." At first Mu seem to speaking nonsense and ramble to himself, but it's a lesson he has to show her another day.
Dinner passed and the meal is gone. Mu searched his pockets of his robe to bring out her pay for today which some bills and coins. "This is for coming for today. I think that's probably it. You'll have no problem going home, would you? Would you return here tomorrow?"
no subject
"My... Core?" Her family, they would never believe her if she told them just what her job entailed. "Ah, I can already run pretty fast. If you are worried about my work, once I learned the layout better I will be able to get the jobs done licky-split!" And there is the mentioning of the dark forest that sends a shiver down her spine. "I... I am glad. If I do run into one, I will let you know." And she really hopes that she doesn't meet one!
With dinner passed, she goes to put the dishes in the sink, she blinks as he was already paying her and a blush creeps up around her cheeks. "Ah, you don't have to pay me so soon... I won't have any issues coming home and of course I will return tomorrow. I am planning on coming everyday." She moves to stash the money away before smiling.
"See you tomorrow! Don't worry about walking me to the gate." A bright smile as she goes to leave. She will have a lot to do tonight, making her notes into simpler ones and fully process all of her duties at this new job.
no subject
He nods, indicating she could take his money as a starter. "Your spiritual core. Everyone has one, but it requires building up and training your core to get stronger. Your core is seated in your belly around the navel. When you work around the garden, everything including the land is magical with spirit energy."
With dinner passed and gone, he leads her the way out and on the path to the front gate where she entered earlier and it's the road that will lead her back home.
In approval, "Mm. I'll see you tomorrow Leanne." He opens the gate for her and he stands with the shining kodomas also, waving good-bye as she takes her leave.
no subject
"Around my navel?..." She guesses it makes since but listens to him. "So working in this land will help build it?" She thinks she understands what he is saying.
With dinner passed and gone, she couldn't help but to blush as he escorts her to the front gate. He was really nice and he should be great to work for.
"See you tomorrow, I will try and get her early to get a head start." She was about to wave back but then sees all the shining kodomas waving good-bye to her and her heart just melts at them. Okay, she is going to give all of them, including Mu a bright smile and a huge wave goodbye as she heads off towards the nearest bus station.
Tomorrow... It was going to be interesting to see what new events will happen tomorrow.
-----------
True to her words, she arrives a little after sunrise, yawning and stretching in order to get the sleep out of her system. Hnnn, maybe once she has enough money she should look for a place closer so she wouldn't need to travel quite so far. But her backpack has shiny new notebooks that had her consolidated notes as well as a blank sketch pad in case she needed to sketch something.
She was about to open the front gate before pausing as the thought of what if she came too early crosses her mind....
.... Oops?
no subject
He spots her and walks over to open the front gate. "Leanne, you're here. You're going need gloves to start working. I have a pair your size in the shed, so come on over and put them on."
He leads her to shed where she'll see a pair of thick gloves require to work and a couple of weaved baskets for collecting crops and fruits. "I just need your help in picking the crops and fruit for today."
no subject
"Thank you, I thought I woke up early enough to help but it seems like I wasnt?" She listens to his instructions and nods her head as she instantly made a beeline to the shed. "You got it. Just let me know where I am to harvest."
She beams but blushes a little as he escorted her to where her tools where for today. "You didn't have to get gloves that are my size."
And the tasks for today didn't seem like it was much... "Are you sure just that? I used to live in the country by a warren."
no subject
"You're not late. It's fine. I was expecting you, so I prepare this." By this, the gloves. "You need it to pick up fruits and crops."
That piqued his interest as he leads the way, pointing out the rows he wanted her to work on. "What it's like? Your country and warren?"
