In the valley between the mountains of the vast land of the kingdom, where long winding rivers mapped the forests and the countryside was filled with farmers and rice paddies where rice is harvest and grown to feed the kingdom, and cattle can be seen plowing through the land. There are many villages. In one of the village, lives a humble family known for raising alpacas.
At the turn of her 18th birthday, it was then the decision was made, but not by her own choice. The mayor of the town, Oliver have decided to take on a third wife, and he has set his sight on the lovely Leanne, who known to be daughter of the local alpacas and wild sheep breeder.
Months prior, the mayor and Leanne's father has a discussion in many meetings over the future and interests of Leanne. Leanne's father is worried for the future of their land, as Oliver owns their land as the rightful landlord and tax collector and since the day he bought the land, he was concerned to keep the land as a home to his family. Oliver is the most wealthy man in town, and the Oliver convinced her poor father that he's wealthy enough to keep Leanne as a third wife, even though her status as a concubine and consort is much lower than the first wives.
There were so many discussions between her and the family afterward. What life of being Oliver's concubine will be like? As Oliver is rich and wealthy and stories that he is a very generous lord, he has a big house, a mansion, and many staff and servants. She was promised a large dowry, which he paid the family handsomely, and even saved an apartment of her own within the mansion.
After her birthday, Oliver visit Leanne often to properly woo her with the marriage promised and signed in papers. It's legal as he legally owns the family land and collects taxes long since she was born. Of course, every time he visits, the man won't leave without making a lewd comment on how she's a lovely bride, and he's an admirer of great beauty, and would often leer at her body, as he's apparently the mayor imagine her on their wedding night and put Leanne in her place to bring honor to her family as much is at stake for the upcoming wedding.
It seems her life and fate is already set. Arranged marriages aren't unheard off, especially if it's determined by parents as its a common and acceptable practice in this land to be married off to improve one's social status or financial obligation to benefit the family.
One week before her life will be over.... One week before she would be married to the mayor.
The man who practically forced her family into marriage. She doesn't hate her family for this. This was something that had to be done to preserve what little land they had. This was an honorable thing for her to do.
But she hated it.
She hated every visit, every gift and comment Oliver will send Leanne's way. She knows that the life he would give her would be luxurious even though her status will be much lower than his first wives. Like a good daughter, she would keep everything inside and buried deep within.
But as soon as she was alone on the fields, she would let everything out. Her anger and disgust about his lewd comments and thoughts about her. How he trapped her family into this marriage.
One day, after venting to her favorite alpaca, she goes to lead him back to the house to start loading things into a saddle. It was time to go and sell and get some food for dinner. She must remain the good and loyal daughter. She will go and bring home money and food to her parents.
It was on this trip that something moved her to take a different route. She didn't know why but she felt such a start push to take a particular route on the way to the city. Leading, her beloved alpaca, she follows this strange urging, only to stop and gaze up at a temple. When was this built? And why hasn't she notice it before?
Full of curiosity, she heads into it, tying the alpaca's leash to a tree just outside the gate. She stops as notices the offering table and goes to offer almost all that she brought for her journey to eat.... Which was megar compared to other offers and offers a small prayer.
"Please help my father keep his honor and protect our home. No matter what may become of me."
With that prayer, she paid for an incense to be burned and heads back into town to start selling her wares alongside her wooly companion.
It was a small built temple meant for travelers on the road, though run-down and old, it was well kept. People left evidence by leaving sacrifices and offerings with their prayers on the altar for safe travels or for good luck and fortune in their business. A pair of guardian statues guards the gate entrance door.
Her prayer was heard by the spirits who inhabit the property around the temple. An old man of a monk was upkeeping the temple, cleaning the grounds. He was cleaning with a broom and give Leanne a friendly wave before she leaves.
After that, there was no incident once she arrived in town. It was well-known she is going to be the bride to be for the Mayor and news traveled quickly since the man made his announcement known to the public. Her customers visit her vendor to wish her well, and they gossip around her. Leanne will be pestered, both by young and old villagers who are curious on her thoughts of her future, as they asked how her wedding with Oliver will go and what a wonderful and generous man Oliver will be. It seems there's no end as to what a larger than life Oliver the mayor and her husband to be will be.
-----
By the end of the long day, when the customers left and when the evening hour came heralding with the orange setting sun streaking the sky when there is one last ware to be sold, and Leanne needs to sell it before calling it a day and go home, her last customer approached her.
He was a tall gentleman with long pink hair tied back. Elegant and refined in his looks, and soft in his manner as he begins to speak to her with a gentle smile. However, the refined clothes he wears make it seem like he is of noble rank or a very upper-class scholar. In one hand, he holds a finely lacquered wooden fan and carved floral patterns at the handle.
"Good evening. I hope I'm not too late to buy your wares. How much is that?" He asked with noble politeness as he eyes her goods with interest.
It was such a shame to see such a temple to look run down. Perhaps, once she is married she can use some of her newer riches to help restore it back to it's former glory.
There was such a friendly monk living there. Perhaps she will come by this way for the rest of the times she comes down this path. Perhaps the god will accept hard work as a good enough sacrifice and offering for her prayers.
All the good vibes and pleasantries stopped the moment she entered town and began selling her wares. This cold place for those born not a noble. But especially her own fate... To be married off to the mayor. She will keep a pleasant smile for all those offering her well wishes and gaining her thoughts. She was glad that she could bring honor to her family in such a manner. Honored even.
Just keep smiling so that her own horrors and unhappiness will be kept hidden. She didn't want this, she didn't want any of it. She would rather die than to lie with Oliver. Perhaps, after she could follow that path once her family is well off.
----
She felt so sore and hungry, and it was getting late, almost too late to be selling but she can't leave yet! Not until her last ware is sold and she buys rice for her family.
Worry was going through her as the path home was not safe so late. She was feeling just a little desperate, trying to catch people's attention to purchase the last of the wool when suddenly, the most handsome man came to her. She couldn't help but to stare a little as he had to be a noble of some family. He was too beautiful not to be and his clothes.
She quickly snapped out of her thoughts as he looks over her goods and asked her the price. "No, my lord. You are not too late! I have the best wool for sale, guaranteed to always keep you warm and comfort you." She starts and couldn't help the blush that was forming on her cheeks. "Normally 200 gold but since it is the last of my stock, I can sell it to ya fer 100 gold. It is a good deal, you can't beat it."
The handsome gentleman merely chuckled with a deep laughter of amusement for a cute humble alpaca seller. "100 gold you say? Why such a fair maiden like yourself give me a discount? It is because I'm a handsome guy?" He sees no harm flirting with her, even though she is a simple poor, hardworking daughter of a large family. Her clothes and job is telling of her social status of what she has to endure for herself and for her family.
"All right, I'll take it. You have my thanks. I am looking for quality wool to make a blanket for my mother, you see. I'm sure it will keep her warm and comfortable for the upcoming winter once the blanket is made."
When the transaction is completed, he takes the wool, but instead of 100 gold as promised for the bargain, she'll find 200 gold exact that she asked for...and a beautiful slab of green jade stone with a red tassel attached, about the size of her hand. The stone was cool to the touch and give off a magical vibe where whenever she touched it, she feels calm and good about herself.
Before the gentleman explains the transaction, with the wool in hand, he said "Thanks, and keep the change. It's a gift." And he was gone down the road.
She goes to blush even more as he flirts with her. Why was such a handsome noble flirting with a poor girl like her? "It is because you are my last customer. But yer looks does help with the discount." Okay, she can flirt a little back. It was fun and much nicer than the lewd comments Oliver made towards her.
"Oh? I will try to be here again in a couple of days to sell more wool if your mother likes it! My own alpaca's wool will be for sale soon. She will be kept warm, I promise." So much confidence in that statement.
The transaction was completed and she knows that her family will be happy. She goes to start looking and counting the gold, stopping once she realizes that he paid too much, his words came out and he was gone, down the road and into the fading crowd. She stood there, dumbfounded for a moment. Why? Why did he pay full price? Especially since she was cutting him such a good deal?
It was then that she notices the jade gift and her cheeks instantly turned bright red. This... This was far too much, she wanted to chase after him but stopped herself as there would be no way she could find him again. This precious gift... It felt so cool and it was so calming. She slipped it into a different pouch so she can keep it. She will have to give him extra wool the next time he came. It wouldn't be right if she didn't.
She purchased some rice, enough to feed her family for at least a week, with a smile and the blush never leaving her face. That man, she will never forget him.
It was dark by the time she left the town to start the trek back home, she goes to light a small lantern to help guide her way home. She was scared, she never meant to be away so late and she can't afford to stay at an inn. A hand idly goes to brush the pouch with the jade in it to regain that calm feeling as she heads now back home.
The alpaca seller never left his mind once he took leave of her. The girl looks too familiar in appearance and resemblance to a girl he once knew a hundred years ago, but the girl died a long time ago. Part of him thought she was lost forever, before telling her how he felt about her...
Still, he trusts his hunches and gave the girl one of his magical stones to make a bond with her, so perhaps he can visit her in her dreams as that's what the stone is for, so he connects a bit of himself to her when the time is right.
-----
The path back home was dangerous and most people go by this road must take care, especially at night where it's dark. It was an open opportunity for bandits to rob people late at night where the light is few. Though on the path, there is a guard outpost for safety, for a poor rural village, there is few protection for security.
Leanne wasn't so lucky on the path, going back home. One moment, she's alone with her steed companion. The next moment, a group of men, rough and angry in looks, came out of the trees with knives in hand, raising their voices. It's dark when they came out to attack.
The next moment, there's a hard violent smack at the back of her head and the world turn black with only the moon as the last light she sees...
This stone, even though she can feel that there was something different about it, she couldn't pinpoint just what about it that made it different. Perhaps when she visits the temple again, she will consult the monk living there.
-----
This trek, it was so scary and frightening. Rafiel... Was she walking the same path as him when he vanished? She goes to clutch the pouch and offers up a small prayer for safety.
With the prayers being spoken, she goes to continue the trek, only to be jumped by the group of men. She goes to start pleading with them, truly frighten and before she could send her beloved steed to flee from the men, she felt a brief bout of pain and soon darkness.
Her body collapsed like a ragdoll, to the ground, the back of her head bleeding from where she was struck. The alpaca, letting out some bleats before trying to get away, moving along at a hurried pace to the path it knew how to get to safety, albeit to the temple or to home. It was carrying the food and knew it had to deliver it back home.
All the while, Leanne was completely at the mercy of the bandits.
Hopefully, alpaca ran away to safety, finding his way home. While the blow wasn't too bad or deep. Leanne was taken to the bandit headquarters, and when she was awakened, she wakes up in a rundown bedroom, all bounded with ropes tied around her wrists and she is alone.
What seems like an eternity, surprisingly it was Rafiel who showed up with a tray of food and water. He entered her room to release her from the rough ropes. "Leanne? Good heavens, you're all right. It's been ages since I have last seen you." And he was none for worse than the wear.
From there, Rafiel explained his situation as to why he went missing a week ago and was never found. He was captured on the same road like Leanne.
"And they are forcing me to marry one of the women if I don't have the money to pay them! Can you believe it? I don't know what else to do. I can't even send letters to call for help." Rafiel was distraught of being held against his own will as a prisoner.
The alpaca was able to ran away to safety, finding his way home and now has to deal with a worried family.
Leanne's fate however wasn't as nice as her beloved companion, she groans as she started to come to and finds herself frowning a little when she felt herself all bounded up. Fear suddenly flooded through her as it dawns on her what happened and tears start to well up in her eyes.
Once the tears and fear ran it's course, she felt herself becoming a little angry and looked around to see if there was anyways to escape. That is, until she saw Rafiel entered the room and releases the ropes.
Joy... So much joy was flooding through her that she couldn't help but to cry a little. "You are alive, brother! You are alive." This was great news.
She listens as she goes to eat, knowing full well that she needs her strength. She frowns though and idly checks for her pouch, the gift... It was a priceless gift but it could save her brother.
"You won't be forced to do such a thing, Rafiel. A noble, he gave me a gift earlier today... Perhaps they will accept it as a price for your freedom. I have it here!" She goes to pull out the pouch and the the jade stone with the red tassels on it. At once, a wave of calmness goes over her and she gains a peaceful expression.
"I will pray that this will be enough for your freedom. Mother and Father misses you so much." She didn't want to give it up but for Rafiel... She will do it. He was more important to her family than she is.
Said worried family were wondering and being confused for hours as to why the apalca came home alone and will call the townspeople and mayor for help for a search party to commence immediately. With both Rafiel and now Leanne missing, the family is worried sick and they hope the mayor will help.
Meanwhile...
-----
Instead of feeling relief, Rafiel is now feeling more intense to care and protect his little sister. He had been abused by captors, his clothes a mess and quite torn in the sleeves and pants, slightly weak from not eating properly, being beaten for not cooperating. It's a challenge to hide the red welts, and the cruel threats from being mishandled for the last few days, as well as was feeling sickly at a given moment.
Still finding the strength to even speak for his sister's sake, he puts on an appearance of cheerfulness...but eventually he needs to sit down next to her from feeling sickly.
"Yes, I'm alive. And how are you? How is the family?" He holds his sister in his arms for a hug. "Do you now? I hope that would help if we could speak to the leader! Maybe it can buy your freedom, and if you do, you need to run as fast as you can and get out of here. We have to get you out of here."
Sharing the room, he stayed with her to keep talking and didn't leave.
-----
Night came, and it was night that Rafiel feared the most that he won't and refused to sleep. His fears is justified when a group of men, about three of them came for Leanne, and he knew why they came for her.
Though he was weak from his illness, he put himself between him and the men in the last stand to protect his sister. "Don't take her! Take me instead!"
There was laughter and violence broke out, and Leanne will be horrified to witness her brother getting beaten up violently as Rafiel is taking the kicks and punches for her sake. "Leanne run!" As the room door was open to reveal a hallway if she chooses to bolt and run.
Rafiel, he looked so sick and she could tell that he was barely hanging on. His clothes and appearance were a mess. She reaches goes to offer him some of the food, she can survive on less food, refusing to eat any more until he had some as well.
She goes to sit as still as she can in case he needs to rest against her. She wanted to cry at the thought of what he possibly went through already.
"We are all well, the mayor he is becoming more and more excited about the marriage." She sighs as he would be the one she could feel safe about her displeasure about the whole marriage. "No, this jade stone will be the thing to buy your freedom, brother. The family needs you more then me. I will be fine."
She stayed awake, talking with Rafiel, missing him and implanting this memory into her mind.
------
Night came and fear went through her. If with how sickly Rafiel is and those red whelts were any indicator... A nightmare was coming for her.
Emerald eyes widen at the sight of the group of men and then the sight of violence. "Rafiel!! Leave him alone!!"
She started to shake and tremble in fear as she watches the violence being set upon him. When the chance to run came, the thought did went through her brain but... She gets up and started to run towards the door, but only to suddenly jump on the back of one of them, punching and even trying to bite his ear off.
She won't run away and leave family behind. Her family is what she was sacrificing her life for by going into that marriage.
During the struggle, the jade stone fell out and dropped to the floor. Sensing Leanne is in danger, the stone vibrates with a glow, and there's a glowing ethereal wisp of energy came bursting out, a spirit taking a shape of a snarling fox with glowing eyes.
The fox came to the rescue and bite the men to fend them off to protect the siblings. There was a shout, screaming of pain and panic, and yelling from being attacked from a big dog.
The noise and violence cause quite a ruckus, that the nearby guards went to help. "You idiots, they're for the boss! What are you doing?" There was a scuffle and the men were dispersed and taken away.
The fox stood by the door, watching the men being taken away by the guards. Leaving Leanne and Rafiel on the floor alone. When all is quiet, the fox disappears back to the stone.
Rafiel's vision was blurred and when he came too, seeing Leanne. "Are you all right? Thank goodness. The bandit boss...she's kept me hostage to make a deal with the mayor. I've been here for days because the mayor couldn't make up his mind and decision to bargain and pay for my freedom."
From the floor, he crawled to the bed to take a rest. "Please shut the door." He prays no one else will come back, and he didn't question where the mysterious fox creature came from.
Earlier that morning, Prince Mu was looking at himself in the mirror, at the red welt of a handprint on his cheek. Talking to the Emperor, his father, over matters of the state is like going to war itself. There is a spar of words, and eventually, fists and swords to test each other's will and resolve. His father was a military man, the ultimate authority over the entire nation, and a tyrant well known for his ruthless, hostile take overs against his enemies, so any talk for peace is out of the question.
Later that afternoon Prince Mu decided to go out hunting to let off some steam. With his hunted company of his well-trusted ministers, his military guards, and generals in his circle to ride out on their warhorses to accompany him to the woods. Dealing with politics and the affairs of the state on his shoulders is a great burden to the prince, so going out hunting is an exercise to loosen up his worries.
A ride out in nature will help him momentarily escape the weary politics and power struggles of his father's and mother's ministers, the concubines who obey only his father, and the loyal nobles in the court. While he is next in line to be Emperor, it will be a long wait as his father believes he's a dragon of the land and shall live forever. A fierce tyrannical dragon with a temper and Mu is a lizard and shadow in comparison after his father's legacy.
So armed with carrying a quiver of bows and arrows and a sword at his hip, he went riding on his prize warhorse. He and his men scour the forests, looking for a game, and hopefully, he'll find a good animal, hopefully, a stag with great antlers to bring back to honor his father in filial piety and pay back his respects, and a gift of apology for talking back to him earlier that day.
It's one of his guards that brought his attention that a trap that they set earlier in one area of the forest that they caught something good. So having brought that to his attention, he went to investigate.
So when the company approaches from Leanne's point of view, a noble prince is approaching. With Prince Mu wearing fine furs, a silk robe, and leathered boots of royal fashion, he and his company approached her from tall horses, and his men all armored and armed, ready to defend the prince.
"What is this? What did we catch?" Said the prince, as he and his company halted to inspect what lay in the trap for them. Mu couldn't see well due to wearing armor and helmet and the trap, since it was one of his generals that found it first, and the one who laid the trap.
Her clan was hungry. Some of the orphans of the clan were practically begging for food and there just wasn't enough food to fully feed everyone. The men could barely hunt sonce humans were expanding their hunting grounds and the females stayed behind to tend to the children.
The begging was starting to become unbearable and it was starting to destroy her heart to hear them begging for more food. So much so that she sneaked away from the hidden village and move to hunt on her own.
She never strayed this far away from her home, that she didnt realize that she entered human territory. She found the perfect prey, a large stag. It had enough meat to feed the orphaned kits for a long time! She stalked and was in the middle of giving chase when she got caught in the trap, hurting her legs in the process.
By the time that Mu and his escorts came and found her, they would see a rather large pure white fox with emerald green eyes. The fox was definitly a rare find as one take a closer look at her fur, they would sew flecks of gold hidden throughout her fur.
At the sight of the humans, the fox's ears laid flat against her head and she goes to bristle, growling and trying to look intimidating to them.
It was a well-laid trapped, meant to catch and ensnared. The general was taken back and he called Prince Mu over. "Your Highness! We caught something. It's a fox!"
"A fox?" There's an energy of excitement among his company. One of his ministers already gave advice, that a fox fur will be a suiting gift to his father while others are already armed, ready to shoot. For Mu, he wanted to take a closer look. "Hold your weapons, don't shoot. Let me have a look."
He gets off his horse to inspect, by opening the bush to find a fox with fur as white as now with flecks of gold. He never has seen such a beautiful fox before and this one is alive. If nobody showed up, she could have been there for days. She was growling, baring her teeth, but she was in pain as the snare was trapped shut around her foot.
"What will your Highness do?" His ministers murmured. They lower their bows and arrows, by the order of the prince.
"I shall open and release the snare first." said the Prince, and he brought out his hunting knife. While the fox is maybe able to bite him in self-defense with him this close, Mu was wearing armor. For Prince Mu, he is not unkind and is more curious as to what kind of fox with usual fur up close.
Speaking to the fox, as they meet eye to eye "Please hold on. You're injured." He uses the knife to cut the ropes of the snare and pried the trap open to release her foot to set her free.
There was so much pain going through her leg as her foot felt like it was crashed. With the pain came fear as now, she would be seen by humans and she heard rumors and horror stories about them.
More and more humans appeared and were surrounding her, not seeming to back off with her growling and teeth bared. She goes to bristle her fur as Mu got off of his horse and started to move towards her with the knife.
She did lash out and bite his arm in an vain attempt to protect herself. When she saw that her bite was not affecting him, she let go of his arm and had a sad look in those fox eyes, accepting her fate to be killed.
However, confusion was the next thing she felt when they not only made eye contact but to have him free her from the trap. She quickly moves her foot out of the trap and limps a little bit away, yelping a little whenever she put pressure on the foot. The fur was stained red with blood due to the injury. Hnnn, she definitely could not run with her foot in this condition and she couldn't return to the village without the risk of leading humans to it.
She studied her foot for a moment but looking at Mu. He freed her, why did he free her. The fox then moves to give his hand a few licks in thanks before limping away a few steps and then flopping over to her side. If they wanted to hunt her down and kill her, she was not in the proper condition to flee. So, in front of the spoiled prince and his escorts, she moves to idly start licking at her injury, whimpering and whining as she does so.
Pain and fear, fear of getting killed, that's what he sees when he watches the fox limping away, wounded and injured. Seeing the pain and hatred in those eyes, he felt pity and shame for himself for hunting on a beautiful animal. He put his knife away. His ministers were encouraging with their advice.
"Your highness, now it's the time to act! Do we shoot?" "A fox's fur will be a fine gift to the Emperor." "It's about to die anyway. Now it's our chance!"
Mu in response, "It's cruel to kill an animal that is already wounded. And my father cares not for fur. It will be a waste of life." He sighed, as he already felt bad for the fox's wound and at the sight of blood. The shame and guilt is on him. "I'm not like my father who would mow down a weaken enemy, as he sees them as weeds to be removed from the kingdom."
"Wise words, your highness. So what shall we do? Return to the kingdom empty-handed?" asked one of the generals.
"I think a wild boar or quail would be a better substitute. It will be a suitable dinner for father and mother. Go around the area and find another game. There shall be no foxes for today." As the order is more from a mood. "Not even a tiger or wolf or bear." He sighed. "If nothing, we shall find something in the market to bring back."
Turning to the fox, "I'll take responsibility for this." Even though the fox bit him through steel armor so Mu is unharmed. Mu made up his mind to care for the fox just by seeing the pain and fear in her eyes. While it's a wild fox, and they're not meant to be pets, but this one's beauty and fur really catches his eye, and he hates to see such beauty is marred by blood spilled.
He sees the fox is getting away, flopping and limping, and whimpering in pain. "You won't survive for long with that injury." He said softly to her.
He reaches up and picks her up to carry her in his arms. With the fox in tow, he heads over to his horse to climb on top of it to rejoin his company.
This human's pack, they were advising for her death. She was scared, so scared of dying but yet, she knew that death was coming for her soon and all she could pray for at that moment was for it to be a quick death. This was all her fault for sneaking out of the village and hunting on her own.
What she didn't except was for the alpha to spare her. It... It was confusing to her. They were going to let her live? What was going on and why? Her ears perked forward as she listens to them.
When he makes a move again towards her, she goes at once to start bristling and growling again. Just what was up with this human? First he was happy and excited to catch her and now he was going to try and help her. What? Just what was up with him?!
She continues to growl until he picks her up and carries her over to his horse. It was while he was carrying her that the vixen finally stopped growling but hopefully, his horse won't be able to sense what she is and get spooked by her. What was going to happen to her? She looks up at him before letting out a long sigh and rests her head against him. There was nothing else she can do now except wait for him to decide her ultimate fate.
The fox is light-weight in his arms. He gives her ears a soothing stroke, though the gauntlet he wears is rough and hard metal. She is loosing so much blood, so he must return home quickly. With a free-hand, taking the leather reign, he clicked his tongue and the horse is in motion to gallop.
From Mu's point of view, the hunting party was dispersed into half. One team will go looking for the Prince's gift for his father. Another team will go with the Prince to return back to the kingdom.
Soon, the scene passed by so quickly as the horse galloped and the Prince make haste from the forest to the kingdom of the Imperial city with so many humans. The kingdom was in sight as Mu takes the lead, leading his party through the large gates, heavily guarded by guards on patrol on the city's towering walls that surrounded the city. They passed by through the city's gate and the Imperial palace was in sight. Towering pagodas can be seen around the main section of the palace and a winding stairway leading to the main building.
On the palace front grounds, there are rows of military men that can be seen on the palace grounds, making their rounds and march by the hour. Every man on the palace front grounds is an armed soldier. Some were riding horses and some were carrying the nation's colors and banners, and others can be seen handling long spears, swords, and carrying bows and quiver of bows arrows. Lower in the military hierarchy, on the palace front ground, unarmored soldiers are in training hand to hand combat and martial arts under the watchful eyes of the generals. The military is so big, it's the Emperor army, and it's no surprise how armed they are, the sight of them is enough to strike terror.
Coming closer to the main palace where there's a long winding stairway leading up to it, ministers, mostly old men can be seen hustle and bustle, wandering from one area to another while discussing politics. Maids and servants can be seen are rushing in their station to finish their tasks.
When Mu arrived, he hopped off his horse, not worrying where his warhouse go as the staff from the stables will take care of him. He carried the fox in his arms, hiding it by wrapping the fox with his cape to hide it from the view of the nosey nobles he will meet upstairs and he climbs up the long-winding stairs until he reached the main doors of the palace into the main chambers.
He was greeted by his group ministers and servants, who eagerly awaited for his return and bowed to him in respect, and was being heckled with the issues of the state.
"Welcome back from the hunt your highness! Have you found anything interesting?" "Your Highness, war is impeding soon...! Your father made up his mind to launch his campaign." "You must speak to your father about how we should launch our attack..." "Can we look in the naval company and discuss the warships as well?" "Tomorrow, there shall be a morning meeting and a breakfast."
So many issues to govern, that his father cannot handle alone. "That's enough," Mu said. "I will address your issues tomorrow morning when we gather our generals for the war meeting." As Mu is in the mood for a dinner.
Giving orders to his servants, "I'm going to need the royal physician. If he could meet with me in my wing, please send him right away. As for dinner, please prepare in an hour and deliver my meal to my wing."
"Yes your highness!" The servants said and they dispersed quickly carrying out the prince's orders.
Meanwhile, Mu carries the fox covered with a cap through the halls and stairs of the palace, being greeted by the servants, and headed toward his wing, to his bedroom. When he closed the door, he unwrapped his cape and lay the fox on the bed to let her rest.
In the meanwhile, as she's on the prince bed, Mu will be attended by his servants to remove his armor, piece by piece, starting with the helmet, the gauntlets, the leggings, and layers of metal being removed until it's revealed that a prince is a handsome man with long, elegant lilac hair and a well-muscled body, lean and well-toned.
Blood, she lost so much that it was taking an effort to keep her eyes open. His gentle and soothing touch was not helping with the fight to stay awake.
The scenery, it was something she never saw before this day. It was beautiful to look at, even when they entered the Imperial City and then towards the Imperial Palace. Her ears perked forward and at the sight of all the armored humans, her couldn't help but to bristle up and growl again.
Her growling finally stopped when she was suddenly wrapped up in his cape and the world was dark, except for the sounds of greetings by the other nobles. This human, this alpha... He was definitely sounding more and more like an alpha. Normally right now, she would whine and yip but she knew that she should stay quiet so he could smuggle her in.
She winces once he freed her from the cape and laid her on his bed. Weak, she felt so weak due to the blood loss that she couldn't help but to whimper and whine due to the pain. What she didn't really expect was for the prince to be so handsome. There was no way that a human could be so handsome!
A blush formed on her cheeks but there was nothing she could do, except lay down and now bleed on his bed. His poor servants, they probably got worried when they seen the blood on his cape. She lets out a small yip towards him, curious to see what his reaction would be.
Her yips and foxy sounds draw the attention of Mu and his servants. At first, they don't seem to hear her, but they're actually really busy to help the prince get ready. The servants helped Mu removed different parts of his armor and put away his weapons in the drawer to use for later.
From the prince wardrobe, they helped him dressed into his casual robe, a dark navy blue robe with patterns of royalty on the back. It's the robe that he usually wears around the palace, to eat dinner with his company, and then study later with his mentors until it's his evening bath time. The servants helped redo his hair to tie up with a gold hairpin and placed what seems like a golden crown to wear as a hair ornament on the top of his head in place to signify he is the prince.
There was a knock on his door and the guard at the door announces. "Your Highness, the Royal physician arrives."
"Open the door and let them in."
The door to his rooms and in came the Royal Physician with his group of assistants, all bow. "Your highness, this servant arrives. Is something the matter? Are you sick?"
"Very good. No, I'm not sick. I have something that I want you to look at and examine. It's a creature that I found injured in the forest and it's on the bed."
From Leanne's point of view, while she lay on the prince bed, she is now being examined by old men with long white beards and mighty wrinkles on their faces and in the middle, the prince among them, as they're examining her.
"What is this? Why a fox?" "We're are used to treating humans..." "Shall we call the vet?" "We have no vets in our administration...?"
"She was injured by a snare." Said Prince Mu, "I release her and brought her home. Have a closer look and see if we can help save her before we can find the vet in the kingdom."
After few long moments of hmm, hrrrm, a couple of remarks on the condition of Leanne's foot injury as they never before treated a fox, and the royal physician, the eldest elder look at her foot with much deeper inspection. "So far, we see no fractures, your highness. It was a deep gash, a cut into the wound. If we can wash the wound and disinfect it to prevent disease, and restrict the blood flow, and apply ointment. It should do until by your decree we will send for the kingdom's vet to have closer look at the injury."
"Very well, treat it at once and go find the vet as soon as possible." And by the prince order and decree, Leanne will find her self being surrounded by servants to clean her bloody dirty fur, and then wash her injured foot and paws, even if she snapped and barked. The servants were rushing to get the medicine by the order of the doctor, and in no time at all, her injury was wrapped with strong-smelling pungent herbs to treat the wound and control the bleeding and pain.
"The fox should be fine. We'll get the vet as soon as possible to have that looked at." "Do you require anything else?"
"No, that would be all. Thank you. Dismissed back to your station." When it's all over, the royal physicians took a bow and take their leave, leaving Prince Mu alone with Leanne, as he inspects his newly acquired fox on the bed. During the tussle, the bloody bedsheets were changed so quickly.
"Hmm, are you a boy or a girl?" Mu wondered as she scratched her ears, very proud that he has taken care of her. Up until now, he can't really tell the gender of the fox that he found. "Hopefully once your leg feels better, you'll return home." He said, and he promise her that, to return her home.
Leanne continues to rest on his bed, idly moving to lick at her injured leg. She felt so weak from the loss of blood and lack of food that it would be so easy to close her eyes and never open them again. That is until she was suddenly surrounded by wrinkly old men and Mu dressed up as a prince.
She growls and bristles a little, baring her teeth to show that she still had fight in her. That is until she figured out that they were there to help her. She did her best to remain still for them but then when they started to man-handle her, she let out high pitched yips and cries of pain, quickly moving to mouthed whoever was handling her injured paw but never biting down.
Once they were done and she was laid back down, she was whimpering and panting due to the stress of the new situation. Her emerald eyes watches as the royal physicians took their leave and then leaving Mu alone with her. A part of her were impressed as she did noticed that the bloodied bed sheets were changed so quickly.
She idly leans her head into the ear scratching, swaying her tail slowly behind her. Though at his question, she couldn't help but to give him a judging look. Really? He couldn't tell that she was female? She is so judging you right now, Mu. But then when he mentioned about taking her home once she is healed and her ears perked up and her tail couldn't help but to start wagging. She goes to give his hand a few licks to show a little bit of affection towards him.
Her tail continued to wag as she goes to nuzzle his hand briefly before resting once more on his bed. She was grateful and thankful to this human prince for not only sparing her, but also tending to her and making sure that she is safe while recovering. When she is feeling stronger, she will just influence his thoughts to tell him of her name while making it seem like he came up with it on his own.
Seeing that he earned the fox affection, Mu sat on the bed and continues to pet her ears and stroke her back, unable to figure out the gender or her name. Still, he was hoping to restore her to full health and return her back to the wild soon. He relaxes as he sat idle, as having spare time is a luxury as he continues to pet the fox.
There was a knock on the door. "Your Highness dinner has arrived."
For Mu, this is routine to have his dinner delivered every hour and he expected his scheduled dinner. "Come in."
"It is the hour of the Rooster (6:00pm). Your dutiful servants has arrived with dinner." Said the servants, as the door opens, and through the door there was a line of servants holding dishes as they walked in, and assembled the table before them. They placed the dishes on the table, lifted up the covers, and before them, to reveal a banquet of hot food from fresh meats, vegetables, delicacies, and desserts all displayed on the table enough to feed the entire village. The way they assembled the food is like a work of perfection and art. His glasses was then filled with tea and wine and all manner of drink.
When all the plates assembled with precision and perfection, the servants bowed, and then stood by dutifully for their prince to eat, as all of them standing. The prince sat up to observed his meal, holding Leanne in his arms to place on his lap as he sat at the table.
"I see no milk on the table." He said to his servants. "Please, bring me milk."
At the Prince decree, the servants yelled, "His Highness calls for milk!" His request is not odd, considering he is the prince, and in no time at all, a golden pot filled with milk arrived, brought by a servant which Mu takes.
Mu pours the from the golden pot and fills a teacup with fresh milk and bring it to the fox to drink, "Have some milk to regain your health and drink. You must be very stressed. If you like, I'll share the chicken on the table with you too."
Leanne continues to enjoy the affection, letting him pet her with no fear of snapping or biting. She even stretches her limbs as she relaxes into his affections, the herbal medicine finally taking some of the pain away.
At the sound of the knocking, she goes to perk her ears up and go on high alert. The vixen remained by Mu's side even as the room was swarmed with servants delivering wonderful smelling food. She was in shock at just how well he was eating and remembers just how little her village seems to get by on.
She was quickly snapped out of her thoughts as Mu picks her up and sets her on his lap to join him at the table. Her stomach goes to growl a little as all the smells hit her nose. It was probably an odd sight to see the prince holding a pure white fox in his arms like a pet.
This prince, he seemed to be so powerful here and if he was the prince, then the emperor must be so much more powerful. She blinks as he goes to pour her a tea cup filled with milk and she can feel her gratitude growing even more. She goes to first sniff the milk before lapping at it slowly, making sure to drink it at the right pace to not get sick. After a few laps, she moves to lick his hands to show her thanks before lapping at the milk again.
This.. This should be enough strength to at least tell him her name. She takes a glance towards him and the moment he was focusing on her, her would hear in his own voice the word, "Leanne". The name repeating again in a female voice as Leanne continues to lap at the milk to make it seem like that is all she is focusing on.

With that prayer, she paid for an incense to be burned and heads back into town to start selling her wares alongside her wooly companion.
no subject

It is a good deal, you can't beat it."
no subject
It's a gift." And he was gone down the road.
no subject

"Leanne run!" As the room door was open to reveal a hallway if she chooses to bolt and run.
no subject

Prince AU
Re: Prince AU

"Your highness, now it's the time to act! Do we shoot?"
"A fox's fur will be a fine gift to the Emperor."
"It's about to die anyway.

Have you found anything interesting?"
"Your Highness, war is impeding soon...! Your father made up his mind to launch his campaign."
"You must speak to your father about how we should launch our attack..."
"Can we look in the naval company and discuss the warships as well?"
"Tomorrow, there shall be a morning meeting and a breakfast."

Why a fox?"
"We're are used to treating humans..."
"Shall we call the vet?"
"We have no vets in our administration...?"
We'll get the vet as soon as possible to have that looked at."
"Do you require anything else?"
